Lakenheath's got talent Published April 10, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Erin R. Babis 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Lakenheath High School students presented an array of talents at their 10th annual talent show in the school's auditorium April 2. The theme of the show, 'Capturing the Essence of America,' was inspired by their environment. The performances featured dancing, music, and more, as well as a jazz performance by Senior Airman Bobby Lucas III, 100th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter. The students and faculty diligently began work on this year's show in December. The talent show was an opportunity for the Air Force community to partner in developing both the students' talents and the show production. Lucas, who has played the saxophone since 2001, took an active role in helping the students improve and gain confidence. "Music is a positive way for the students to express how they feel, like when I play my saxophone," he explained. "It's inspiring that these kids are creating music and doing this talent show." Maria Griffis, a senior at Lakenheath High School, performed for the third time at the show. She performed several songs, including the national anthem, while accompanied by Lucas. "The show is a great chance to learn and have fun meeting new people that have similar interests," Griffis said. "We're just having a fun time." The students, inspired by the theme, put a lot of heart into their performances. "To me, it represents our country, us as Americans and our mothers and fathers who are active duty," Griffis said. "So, it's very special." Editor's Note: *This talent show was for the sole purpose of showcasing the students' talents, not a competition
