Liberty Spotlight: Senior Airman Henderson Published Nov. 20, 2014 By 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Name and Rank: Senior Airman Branton Henderson Unit: 48th Equipment Maintenance Squadron Duty Title: Aircraft Inspection Section Journeyman Time in Service: 3 years, 8 months Time at RAF Lakenheath: 6 months Hometown: Columbus, Ga. Hobbies: Playing sports, weightlifting, reading and traveling Core Values Portrayed: Service Before Self How does the individual portray this core value? Henderson was submitted by Master Sgt. Matt Perry, 48th Equipment Maintenance Squadron aircraft inspection section chief. According to Perry, Henderson, or "Hendo", is truly an asset to the 48th Fighter Wing. Whether it's his uncanny ability to wield a wrench, or his motivational chant, "Twin Tails for life," referring to the mighty F-15E Strike Eagle, his passion for being an 'Eagle Keaper' inspires his fellow mechanics to ensure the 48th Fighter Wing's warfighting fleet is mission capable. He's quick to train new personnel, and will jump on tasks usually reserved for seasoned NCOs, even if he has to stay late. Not only is Henderson the first to help, but he leads the maintenance effort and recruits others as well, especially when asked to assist other squadrons inside the 48th Maintenance Group. I know he gets immense personal satisfaction from his efforts, but his actions to fulfill the 48th FW's mission are truly selfless. Why did you join the Air Force? I joined for the educational benefits and to gain experience in an interesting trade. How does your job support the mission of the 48th Fighter Wing? I believe that working in aircraft inspections is all about finesse. We take the aircraft, thoroughly inspect it and give it a much-needed makeover. The result is a better aircraft and a guaranteed sortie. What drives you as an Airman? Being a positive example for my younger siblings inspires me to be better. Also, I promised my grandmother I'd always take advantage of every positive opportunity. It drives me to be a better Airman. What skills do you possess that set you apart from others? Always being understanding, which I have practiced for a long time, separates me from others. I like to understand whatever the situation is at hand and challenge myself to make it better. What has been your favorite place to travel in England/Europe, or where would you like to travel to? Scotland has been my favorite place to travel in Great Britain. I love the history and their strong sense of tradition. Also, the scenery is beautiful. A basic iPhone picture of the coast or mountains will come out like you used the latest Nikon.
