Liberty Spotlight shines on Staff Sgt. Greene Published Sept. 2, 2014 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Name and Rank: Staff Sgt. Christopher Greene Unit: 48th Equipment Maintenance Squadron Duty Title: Aircraft Structural Maintenance Supervisor Time in Service: 7 years Time at RAF Lakenheath: 3 years, 10 months Hometown: Orlando, Florida Hobbies: Rebuilding classic cars Core Value Portrayed: Service Before Self How does the individual portray that core value? Greene has always been the go-to guy within our shop at RAF Lakenheath. He always gives 110 percent when it comes to tasks we need to get done, and he also continually supports squadron and community events. Greene's work ethic and enthusiasm is an excellent example of Service Before Self and sets the foundation for our future Airmen. Why did you join the Air Force? Before I joined the Air Force, I used to install metal roofing. I wanted to better myself and I didn't see that going anywhere until I went to a recruiter. They talked to me about becoming an aircraft structural maintainer. I was told that I could travel the world and work on multi-million dollar aircraft. How does your job support the mission of the 48th Fighter Wing? While deployed with the 56th Rescue Squadron, I repaired my first real combat damage after we were attacked. The moment I saw those repaired helicopters save multiple lives, it allowed me to see that I have a role in contributing to the mission. What drives you as an Airman? I like to push people to their potential to make them better while bettering myself at the same time. It gives me a feeling of accomplishment. What skills do you possess that set you apart from other Airmen? My job is also my hobby so I feel that I have more experience than most people. I have no problem trying new things. Some may try to stick to the old ways of doing things, but I try to find easier ways of completing the job. What has been your favorite place to travel to in England/Europe, or where would you like to travel to? I would have to say that my trip to Corfu, Greece was great. The water was blue, everything was cheap and the people were nice. We went snorkeling and cliff jumping and it was one of my best trips yet.
