Following a two-year Unit Effectiveness Inspections, inspectors delivered good news to Royal Air Force Lakenheath May 19: Highly Effective!

The UEI program tracks and rates the overall effectiveness of an organization, as opposed to individual units.

"This is important for the Air Force, and it's critical for us at RAF Lakenheath," said Col. Kyle Robinson, 48th Fighter Wing commander. "To say we're highly effective overall...that's huge! We're doing the mission with solid leadership."

With the new Commander's Inspection Program, or CCIP, in place, inspections are intended to facilitate commanders in finding and improving programs within their units, ultimately reducing the need for external inspectors.

Airmen were inspected on their specific jobs, along with military basics such as accountability, shelter-in-place procedures, self-aid and buddy care, and identifying suspicious behavior.

RAF Lakenheath, the first base to go through the entire two-year inspection with the Commander's Inspection Program, or CCIP, scored an overall rating of 'Highly Effective' on the UEI, which is the second-highest rating possible.

During the inspection out-briefing to wing leadership, Lt. Col. April Mench, a member of the inspection team from U.S. Air Forces in Europe, noted the team's experience at RAF Lakenheath was a positive one and described the Airmen as open, frank and courteous.

Inspectors also saw that discipline has been applied fairly and consistently across the wing, which was attributed to good command and control throughout the installation.

"We learned a lot this week," Robinson added. "We were the last wing to come over to the CCIP, but we were the first wing to go through the entire two-year inspection process. It wasn't like an inspection. It was like another week at RAF Lakenheath."
