Watch supervisor displays ‘Service Before Self’ Published Jan. 23, 2014 By 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Name and Rank: Tech. Sgt. Pamela Adamson Unit: 48th Operations Support Squadron Duty Title: Radar approach control center watch supervisor Time in Service: 10 years Time at RAF Lakenheath: 8 months Hometown: West Deptford, N.J. Hobbies: Completing crafts with my daughter, Caroline. Core Value Portrayed: Service Before Self How does the individual portray that core value? Adamson continually does the right thing, even if it means more work and longer hours. Her tireless efforts to improve programs and oversee the daily operations of hundreds of flights demonstrate the core value of 'Service Before Self.' As her supervisor, I never have to wonder about what type of product I am going to get from Adamson. She is always spot on. Why is serving in the Air Force important to you? Serving in the Air Force is important to me because I believe in giving back to my community, be it volunteering at a dog shelter or bringing coats and blankets to the homeless in the winter. I chose to serve in the military as my public service; it comes with challenges, but I have never regretted my choice. What accomplishment during your Air Force career are you most proud of? In 2007, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma while on mid-tour from Kunsan Air Base, Republic of Korea. I was forced to examine my whole life and career and whether or not I would be able to continue with either one. While in the middle of chemotherapy at Andrews Air Force Base, Md., I attended Airman Leadership School. That was the toughest fight of my life. Supporting me were 63 people from different career fields who had no real investment in my future career and who I was likely never going to work with again. They showed me what it meant to be a true "Air Force Family." I worked hard to win the John Levitow Award out of ALS. My class walked on stage with me and literally held me in position for photos. I have never been prouder in my whole life, both of the accomplishment itself and of the caliber of people the Air Force selects, who show such humanity. What are your personal and/or professional goals? I want to get my Community College of the Air Force degree and finish my bachelor's degree in English before I leave Royal Air Force Lakenheath. I want to be the most well-rounded air traffic controller I can be. To accomplish this, I would like to earn several advanced certifications and complete a special duty assignment outside my career field. I want to compete for and win an annual award at the highest level as an NCO. My long-term, professional goal is to someday make chief master sergeant. My personal goals are to complete a Tough Mudder, a half marathon, 10 unassisted pullups, and consistently receive an "excellent" rating on my PT tests. Also, I want to create a well-organized, easy-to-apply home management system that works for me and my husband. What is your favorite part of the job? My favorite part of my job is that it keeps me on my toes. It can change at any minute, and I really like the pace and the challenge. I love that I work with brilliant people every day to tackle it with me.
