In addition, the below information may help answer some frequently asked questions:

1. Can I wash dishes using tap water?

You may hand wash dishes and utensils by following these steps:
  • Wash the dishes as you normally would.
  • As a final step, immerse the dishes for at least one minute in lukewarm water to which a teaspoon of bleach per gallon of water has been added.
  • Allow the dishes to completely air dry.
Using your dishwasher on the sanitizing cycle is just as effective. However, if it does not have a sanitizing cycle, or you are not sure if it does, use the above steps to safely hand wash your dishes.

2. Can I give my pets tap water?

Although pets are not normally affected by the same diseases as humans, recommendations are to give pets bottled water or boiled water that has been cooled.

3. Can I give safely wash clothes?

Yes, you can safely wash clothes using tap water while under a boil water advisory. There is no health concern about using this water to wash clothing.

4. Can I take a shower?
