Boil water notice: RAF Lakenheath Published Dec. 3, 2013 By Staff Reports 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Starting December 3, water maintenance will be conducted that will affect the entire base. The water cannot be considered "safe" to drink until two sets of consecutive bacteriological samples are negative (48 hours total). Therefore, a boil your water before use notice will be in effect from 8 p.m. on December 3 until December 6 at the earliest. What should I do? · DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST OR USE BOTTLED WATER. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, and preparing food until further notice. Boiling water kills bacteria and other organisms. What is being done? The water distribution system will be disconnected only as long as needed to complete the upgrades to the system. This notification is to ensure that residents and workers are informed prior to the start of maintenance. After the work is completed the system will be chlorinated and Bioenvironmental Engineering will conduct sampling to ensure it is safe to drink. We will inform you when tests show no bacteria and you no longer need to boil your water. Who do I contact for more information? For more information, please contact Bioenvironmental Engineering at 01638-54-6580 or 01638-52-8047.
