McBride 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- From battlefields of the middles ages to the present day gridiron, Lancers deliver a blow to their enemies while charging forward. The Lakenheath High School Junior Varsity football team helps maintain the reputation. These Lancers, despite closing out a winless season, have shown mental and physical toughness throughout 2013. In their most recent 42-0 loss to Brussels American School at the RAF Lakenheath football field Oct. 26, Freshman Donte Hall rushed 6 times for 48 yards to lead the way. On defense, sophomores Tyler Rodriguez and Colten Menges, and freshman Rane Stringer each recorded five tackles. Throughout the season, starting quarterback, freshman Rye Bennet, completed 41 of 83 passes (49 percent) for 271 yards and three touchdowns. Bennet also rushed for 355 yards and pulled in an additional two scores. His passes rarely strayed into enemy hands, having only five interceptions in the season. Stringer, the team's top wide receiver, recorded 15 receptions for 144 yards and a touchdown. The Lancers fly all over the field with a defense led by the trio of tacklers -- Deither Cruse (25 tackles), Menges (24 tackles) and Rodriguez (18 tackles). In addition, the defense forced five fumbles throughout the season, adding a defensive touchdown to their point total. With efforts on both sides of the ball, the Lancers fought through adversity in every game they played. As the players enhance their skills in the off-season, the Lancers will work to give themselves a great shot at a successful season in 2014.
