Gate improvements to ensure installation safety Published Sept. 12, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Dana J. Butler 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, ENGLAND -- The Jason D. Nathan Gate, also known as Gate 2, is getting a security upgrade by installing force protection measures. "Construction started last month and is projected to end in February of next year if weather conditions remain favorable," said Kevin Rogers, 48th Civil Engineer Squadron construction management chief. "So far, work is ahead of schedule." In order to carry out the force protection measures and provide increased installation security for Gate 2 and Lords Walk residents, construction will be occurring on Lords Walk Road, Bangor Road and Norwich Road. The scope of work includes installation of final denial barriers, raised concrete curbing, concrete islands, and necessary lighting, signaling and road markings. This project is required to bring the existing gate into compliance with current force protection regulations and maintain the security of the installation, said Vicky Stayton, 48th Civil Engineer Squadron engineering construction project manager. "Portions of the roads and walkways on base are still inaccessible due to construction; however, the outcome will benefit the base as a whole," said Stayton. "As of now, the force protection measures at Gate 2 are one of the top priority projects," said Rogers.
