MSG hosts 2nd annual ‘Olympics’ Published June 21, 2016 By Senior Airman Nigel Sandridge 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Airmen and families from the 48th Mission Support Group participated in the second annual MSG Olympics, June 16, 2016. The 48th MSG Olympics gave participants from six squadrons the chance to take a break from daily mission demands to build fellowship with other base personnel through food, festivities and friendly rivalry. “Today is all about camaraderie and friendly competition,” said Col. Michael A. Zrostlik, 48th MSG commander. “It allows Airmen to get out of the office or away from the flightline and recharge their batteries.” Nine competitions ranging from basketball and dodgeball, to sumo wrestling and a relay races, were set up pitting squadrons against each other for a chance to receive the coveted 48th MSG title belt. “We had a really successful event last year, so we wanted to continue the tradition,” said Master Sgt. William Evans, 48th Logistics Readiness Squadron center storage craftsman. “It took us 10 months to coordinate and get everything set into place.” Battling through the various feats of athleticism, the 48th Security Forces Squadron Spartans successfully redeemed themselves from a crushing defeat last year to become the new champions. “I really liked today’s competition,” said Staff Sgt. Michael Jordan, 48th Force Support Squadron fitness specialist. “Besides winning a few events, I got the chance to connect with people from the group that I never get the opportunity to on a level that’s different from just work.” With the overall success of the event, the 48th SFS plans on continuing the newly established tradition by defending their championship next year against their new-found comrades.
