Weber 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- The 48th Fighter Wing celebrated Independence Day by hosting the first-ever Wings and Wheels event, July 2, 2016. Liberty Wing families and their guests were treated to a performance by the RAF Falcons Parachute Display team while they enjoyed a classic car show, carnival rides, static aircraft displays, food, drinks and live entertainment. “Despite the change in policy, venue and the weather, it was a successful event,” said Col. Robert Novotny, 48th Fighter Wing commander. “Our goal was to have the event and we executed that goal. Next year, we hope to be able to expand. Everything went so well this year; the food vendors did an amazing job and the RAF Falcons did a phenomenal display with their jump.” Approximately 5,000 Liberty Airmen, their families and friends attended this year’s celebration. The 48th FW and Force Support Squadron look forward to expanding the event in the future. “It was a great turnout. We’re really proud of this year’s event,” Novotny said. “We look forward to next year being bigger and more successful.”
