U.S. Air Force Academy cadets visited Royal Air Force Lakenheath as part of Operation Air Force, July 20 to Aug. 4.

OPS AF is a two-week program offered to rising junior cadets to learn about the range of career fields available to commissioned officers.

“It is helpful to the cadets to have a clear understanding of what career fields they want to pursue when they commission,” said Capt. Nathan Cosker, the OPS AF director at RAF Lakenheath. “You can get some hands-on experience and find out if it is what you expected it to be and if it’s a good fit for you.”

One of the objectives of OPS AF is to provide an opportunity for cadets to interact with NCOs and airmen, while also presenting a first-hand look at how an operational military base functions.

“Being able to go and view Airmen, and how officers lead those Airmen, is a great opportunity for us,” said USAFA Cadet Tyler Ketron.

The knowledge the cadets gain from OPS AF will help them better understand what is expected of them in the future, when they commission as second lieutenants; should they become pilots, intelligence officers or any other type of officer in the spectrum of career fields.
