Action Line: Gas station pumps Published Dec. 3, 2010 By Col. John T. Quintas 48th Fighter Wing commander ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- COMPLAINT While getting gas at the base gas station, the pump did not automatically cut off in time and my wife was splattered in gasoline. When the situation was mentioned to the attendant, the attendant replied that several people have had similar issues. Can the problem be looked at or the pumps possibly replaced? Getting gasoline on clothing is bad enough but this could also pose a safety risk as the gasoline nearly reached her face and eyes. RESPONSE Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I've spoken to AAFES and shared your valid concern regarding the safety of the pumps on base. We apologize for the incident in which your wife was splattered with gas. As a result of your inquiry, AAFES has reviewed the automatic cut off on all of the pumps and have confirmed they are all in proper working order. AAFES will continue to monitor the pumps and nozzles daily to ensure equipment continues to function as intended. I recommend you contact the Lakenheath Gas Station's Facility Manager, Bobby Mathers (DSN 226-5729) if you require reimbursement for the dry cleaning of your wife's clothing or replacement if needed. Should you need further assistance please feel free to contact the General Manager, Larry Salgado (DSN 226-7368 or commercial #01842-828289). I hope this satisfactorily answers your concerns, and again, thank you for taking the time to help protect our Liberty Warriors and their families. ******************************************* The Action Line is your direct link to the commander for complaints, suggestions or comments.
