Action Line: Education Center Parking Lot Published May 14, 2010 By Col. Jay B. Silveria 48th Fighter Wing commander ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- COMPLAINT: I want to start by saying how great the new directional pavement markings and signs are in the commissary parking lot. I think it's much safer for everyone shopping there. Would it be possible to do a similar thing in the Education Center parking lot, the one on the side closest to Burger King and Popeye's? As the lot is quite small and fills up quickly between customers and staff in the building, I think directional signs and pavement markings would make this a safer lot also. Thank you for your consideration to this matter. RESPONSE: Thank you for your comment; we appreciate your positive feedback on the Commissary parking lot work and your sincere interest in traffic safety. The 48th Civil Engineer Squadron's Traffic Engineer Group carefully reviewed your request. After a thorough analysis of layout, traffic frequency and accident rate, our traffic safety experts have determined the current parking lot layout at the Education Center is sufficient to meet its intended use. The current layout mirrors the standard seen at most parking lots on RAF Lakenheath and does not present a need at this time to create one-way traffic flow. You raise an excellent concern in pointing out that the parking spot lines are difficult to see. Our Civil Engineers have created a work order to re-stripe the lines. You can expect to see this work completed when more funds become available next year. Thank you again for your feedback and for your proactive concern for the safety of our base. ******************************************* The Action Line is your direct link to the commander for complaints, suggestions or comments.
