Why is Early School Registration important? Published May 13, 2010 By Lisa Thompson School Liaison Officer ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- It's May, and the Department of Defense Dependent Schools are trying to get as many students as possible registered for the 2010-2011 school year. Advance registration is important to your student's educational opportunities because when students are registered in advance, it provides DODDS the statistical data necessary to determine the number of teachers needed for the following school year. Also, the principals use the registration data for determining which courses and the number of courses that will be offered when school re-opens in the fall. If parents delay registering their children, DODDS isn't utilizing the best figures to determine the number of teachers, courses, etc. needed. If this happens, a school may not have the correct number of teachers to effectively teach; resulting in higher student-to-teacher ratios, etc. or students may not have the opportunity to take their first choice of courses. Parents truly have more power than they know when it comes to school registration and its importance to their child's education. If you haven't already, please take the time to register your children today. Please contact your individual school's registrar to register your child: · Feltwell Elementary School: Nichole Boyd DSN 226-7003 · Lakenheath Elementary School: Diana Panchal DSN 226-3721 · Liberty Intermediate: Denise Wright DSN 226-2258 · Lakenheath Middle School: Ruth Basinger: DSN 226-7006 · Lakenheath High School: Nikki Newman DSN 226-5559 Additionally, the School Liaison Office is taking applications for Free and Reduced Lunch Program for next year.
