Action Line: Skate Park Lighting

COMPLAINT:

The skate park is being used in the late afternoons, but the automatic lighting doesn't come on until 3 a.m.  I called CE customer service several weeks ago but no one has came by to look at it. The security police have tried to turn off the lights in the wee hours, but are unsuccessful.

There are two separate problems:

1. The manual switch on the light box is broken. This should be an easy repair. I would be glad to be responsible for ensuring it is off each evening.

2. The automatic timer needs to be reset; it seems to have been scrambled ever since the power outage before Christmas.

I would appreciate a reply noting the steps being taken so I can encourage our neighborhood children that something is being done.

RESPONSE:

Thank you for expressing your concerns regarding lights at the skate park.

After investigation, our Civil Engineer electricians re-set the time clock at the skate park on 2 Feb 2010 which was indeed affected by the power outage in December. Lights now come on at dark and stay on until the timer turns the lights off at 2200, in accordance with family housing quiet hours.

The 48th Civil Engineer Squadron has also added skate park lights to their Reoccurring Work Program schedule so both the time clock and manual switch applications are inspected and tested on a regular basis to ensure they continue to operate correctly. Re-setting the time clock also corrected the concern with the manual switch--when the clock was not working, it would not allow the manual switch to override the ability to turn the lights off.
