Action Line: Poor visibility at the Strike Eagle Complex

COMPLAINT:

When driving into work in the morning I have to drive past the Strike Eagle Complex on my way to the Flight line. It is very difficult to see anyone crossing the road between Hanger 6 and SEC, especially when reflective belts are not being worn, or they are being covered by uniform jacket or Gortex. The lighting in this area is very bad, and although the speed limit is 15mph it is still very difficult spot someone on the road.

Is there something that can be done about the lighting in that area so that visibility would be better?

RESPONSE by Col. Silveria:

Thank you for your message. I have directed the Civil Engineers to restripe the roadway from the roundabout to the Sierra Taxiway crossing. This will improve driver awareness of the traffic patterns during the hours of darkness. Additionally, I've directed the engineers to develop a project to install lights at each end of the crosswalk at the edges of pavement.

While these two measures will improve visibility, they do not remove the need for Airmen to maintain traffic awareness and to wear their reflective gear. All levels of leadership need to be reminding their Airmen on the need for vigilance when it comes to visibility and traffic safety. Leaders need to ensure that reflective belts are always worn in the hours of darkness. Our Airmen should also encourage their family members to wear reflective gear for their safety.
