There have never been as many cool opportunities for Airmen as there are in our Air Force today. The Air Force recognizes, as we do locally here at RAF Lakenheath, providing opportunities for Airmen to have fun both on and off base is an important priority.

I'd like to highlight just one of the many great opportunities that we provide for our Airmen at RAF Lakenheath. If you're a young adult and you've never heard of Cafe Decurro, you're missing out on a lot of fun with your peers and some great coffee!

Cafe Decurro was created by our chapel for the young adults of our community. The cafe offers coffee, internet stations, wireless broadband, video gaming stations, video theater, full kitchen and a pool table.

Home cooked meals are provided every Friday evening. After the meal, the staff plans fun group activities. Airmen provide volunteer staffing for the cafe.

The cafe also serves as the hub of activity for a growing community of young adults. The cafe is a starting point for regular trips, retreats and outings. In the past year they've had trips to Germany, Scotland, The Lakes District, The Peaks District and York, as well as other outings like a Bicycle Tour of London, Shakespeare at the Globe Theatre and ice skating at the London Museum of Natural History.

Upcoming events include "Superhero Bowling" on Halloween, a Guy Fawkes Night bonfire, a Thanksgiving weekend retreat and a trip to Egypt is being planned for late March, 2010.

Cafe Decurro also hosts an alternative chapel worship service designed by and for young adults. "Something like Church" meets every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. There is also an off-base dinner and Bible study on Wednesday evenings with rides provided from Cafe Decurro at 5:45 p.m.

The cafe's hours are 6 to 10 p.m., 7 days a week and located in building 948.  For more information, call 226-3711.
