The Health and Wellness Center here is holding an informational health fair, supporting natural, complimentary and alternative health therapies Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There are a number of different Health Therapists participating, covering a variety of complimentary and natural health therapies including: Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, Thai Massage, Kinesiology, Thought Field Therapy, Shiatsu, Yoga and Homeopathy.

It's common knowledge that nutrition and exercise are the foundations of achieving a healthy lifestyle; however, it's also important to look at health in a "Holistic" sense, treating the body as a whole and feeding the needs of our mind, body and soul.

The "Average Joe" can benefit in many ways from this health fair. Many of the therapists will be offering free mini health checks (which involve nothing more than a visual assessment) from which the therapist will be able to identify areas of health which need attention. They can then advise ways in which people can make improvements on their health.

The military life is so fast paced and high stress, our active duty personnel have a lot of pressure to work at their very best on a daily basis. Our bodies however, are more complex and sometimes we get out of balance, which has an effect on our overall health.
With some of the medication restrictions in place for military personnel, complimentary therapies can be a safe and effective alternative form of treating minor illness such as headaches, stress related illnesses, anxiety or even overcoming habits such as smoking, emotional eating, or slight depression, without the use of medication.

Another area where people can benefit is diet. Processed foods play a major role in today's eating habits. Sometimes the additives in processed food (not necessarily deemed "harmful" to us) can adversely affect our health without us realizing it, making us feel tired, listless or sluggish. A Kinesiologist can test people for certain foods to see if any foods they're eating are depleting their energy levels and preventing them from living healthier, happier lives.

Natural therapy treatments are not limited to adults, children can also greatly benefit from natural health therapies.

If everyone could take 30 minutes out of their busy day to come and see what we have to offer, the benefits may surprise them. There will be free mini health checkups, mini treatments, taster sessions and door prizes.

Additionally, 30-minute Natural Health Seminars are being offered from 12:30 p.m. onwards for anyone wishing a deeper understanding about a particular therapy, and how they can work well alongside and compliment conventional medicine practices. There is something for everyone!
