Liberty Live news at your fingertips Published Feb. 26, 2007 By Brig. Gen. Robert P. Steel 48th Fighter Wing commander ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Historically, commanders have used the base newspaper as a tool to supply news to Airmen and their families about vital Air Force, wing and local information affecting the base. With advances in technology and the ever-changing world and Air Force, people turn more and more to the internet for faster news and up-to- date information. RAF Lakenheath news makes the leap to the internet on Monday. After more than 55 years of supplying the men and women of the Liberty Wing news, the Jet 48 will end its legacy with today's final edition. Liberty Live, the on-line publication for RAF Lakenheath, will pick up where the Jet 48 left off, providing news, articles, leadership perspectives and unit features we all read and enjoy weekly in the Jet. The on-line news service will give you information on base activities and news much more quickly than before. Instead of waiting up to 10 days to see your event in the paper, now it will be readily available within one to two days, at the click of a mouse at www.lakenheath.af.mil Selecting the Liberty live button on the Lakenheath homepage will send you directly to the latest news and features about the Liberty Wing. The site also gives us a chance to highlight hard working Airmen more frequently. For example, the Liberty Live Spotlight will give commanders, first sergeants and supervisors a chance to submit hard-working, often unrecognized troops to be highlighted on a regular basis. In addition, the Liberty Achievements section will recognize all wing, Major Command and Air Force-level award winners as soon as the announcement is made. For those of you who like a tangible product to read at the pharmacy or pick up at the post office, a civilian-produced publication, combining news from both RAFs Lakenheath and Mildenhall, will still be distributed on base. The new magazine, The Force, will not be an Air Force product, but it will contain stories and news about both bases. Please continue to share your stories and events with the Public Affairs office at 226-2151 or 48fw.pa@lakenheath.af.mil, as we develop Liberty Live into a useful, attractive tool, providing the Liberty Wing with news you want. Congratulations to the Jet 48 team on decades of superior news for the Liberty Wing -- and for on ending the magazine's legacy on a high note with selection as the best magazine in U.S. Air Forces in Europe for 2006.
