Capt. Cynthia LeFrere, 48th Medical Operations Squadron nurse, uses the new Emergency Severity Index to asses her patient in the emergency room. The ESI is used by staff to prioritize incoming patients, facilitate patient flow and avoid unnecessary congestion, initiate treatment and alleviate pain and anxiety while providing education and referrals to patients and families. RAF Lakenheath is the first ER in U.S. Air Forces in Europe to initiate the new system. (U.S. Air Force photo/ Staff Sgt. Megan Lyon)
