Staff Sgt. Jhovany Payne was adopted from a Haitian orphanage as a child by a retired U.S. Air Force pilot. With hard work and determination, Payne enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was eventually selected to attend Officer Training School to become a commissioned officer.
