48th Avenue hosts Extreme Summer poolshark tournament Published July 10, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Kristopher Levasseur 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- RAF Lakenheath's 48th Avenue exploded with the thunderous sound of billiard-on-billiard action July 1 as Frederick Polidario took the title of Extreme Summer poolshark champion with an amazing 12 wins, 3 loses. The tournament involved six players with one common goal - taking home the championship. Polidario started off the first-to-three style tournament playing Robert Krill. Polidario over-powered his throw and knocked the cue ball off the table twice during the break. After being defeated by Polidario, Krill moved on to play Steven Larson after a three in a row defeat by Polidario. Larson dropped 2 solids on the break and nailed another solid on his second throw, giving him a clear advantage but it was not enough. Krill cleared the table in his next three turns leaving Larson with four remaining balls. "My head wasn't in the game," said Larson. "Seeing four balls left on the table let me know that I had to get serious." Circumstances changed when Larson brought out his 'A' game winning the next three matches with Krill, sending Krill home early. Afterwards, Larson went on to play Josh Dillenback. Winning three of four games, Larson knocked Dillenback out of the tournament. Larson's luck ran out in his next line-up, though, as David Hart took him out winning three of five matches. Locking it up 2-2, David Hart started the fifth break against Tim Mann. Round for round, the match remained close, but Mann managed to pull off a two ball run and drop the 8-Ball leaving one ball on the table, ending Harts time in the tournament. Down to the last two players, Polidario and Mann bring it down to the wire with a score of 2-2. Polidario started off with a heavy break, hopping the cue-ball off the table for the third time during the tournament. The break yielded no drops, leaving the table open for Mann. Mann took a long shot dropping the 13-ball and setting him up for the 9-ball. Mann failed to sink the 9-ball, but managed to leave poor table positioning for Polidario. Polidario attempted a bank shot on the 5-ball but missed. Mann powered the 15-ball into the corner pocket and preceded drop the 11-ball. He went after the 9-ball again, but hopped it out of the side pocket. Polidario caught a break and ran the 2, 7 and 6-balls off the table but scratched on the 6-ball. Taking the advantage of the ball-in-hand, Mann dropped the 10-ball into the side pocket and then dropped the 12-ball into the corner pocket pulling a combo off the 9-ball. Polidario ran the 1, 3, 5 and 4-balls off the table but failed to drop the 8-ball. Mann dropped both the 14-ball and the 9-ball but couldn't complete the 8-ball. This left Polidario enough of an opportunity to drop the 8-ball. "It was great to win, but it was even greater to know that I won playing people with amazing skill and experience," said Polidario. Polidario remained undefeated after playing four skilled players during the five-hour long tournament, clearly making him the Extreme Summer poolshark champion.
