Resiliency tools for life's little challenges

It has been said that trouble or challenge is a tunnel through which we must pass and not a brick wall against which we must break our head.

In the current world of high operation tempos, deployments, re-integrations, family-life cycles and permanent change of stations, navigating through the tunnel becomes critical. Common sense would say, and research has shown, that preparing in advance for stressful times greatly reduces negative outcomes and impacts on individuals and families.

Throughout the year and especially during April, Child Abuse Awareness Month, there is an on-going effort to eliminate incidents of family maltreatment by making the military community aware of effective resources that create safe alternatives to life and work stressors.

The 48th Medical Group resiliency element is currently offering educational classes and New Parent Support Program services to Airmen and their families on RAFs Lakenheath and Mildenhall.
  • The NPSP offers both in-home and office consultations for expectant parents and those with children ages 0 to 3.

  • Registered nurses provide parental training with Baby Basics and a class just for fathers.

  • Parenting skill enhancement and stress/anger management classes are also being offered at the professional development center on RAF Lakenheath.

  • Love & Logic Parenting Class, for parents with children over 3, covers topics such as teaching children responsibility, establishing healthy control without resorting to anger and power struggles and raising kids who are self-confident, motivated and ready for the real world.

  • Stress and Anger Management is a combined class teaching proven techniques to effectively manage stress and anger by monitoring and gauging stress or anger levels and developing and implementing a plan of action for de-escalation.
Classes are considered medical appointments and no records are kept.
