Pilot for a Day, memories for life
ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Jack Driver, 10, learns how to operate a GAU-2C mini-gun from Tech. Sgt. Dietrich Thurston, 748th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron weapons expeditor, inside an HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter on the RAF Lakenheath flightline March 14, 2012. Driver, who suffers from Aplastic Anemia, a rare auto immune disorder where bone marrow fails to make enough blood cells, was selected as a pilot for the day. The Pilot for a Day program is new to RAF Lakenheath and provides children in the local community, who are fighting life-threatening illnesses or conditions, a day of fun as well as a break from the routine doctor and hospital visits.
