Family, friends honor fallen Airman Published Jan. 6, 2017 By Senior Airman Malcolm Mayfield 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- At 7:48 a.m. today, hundreds of people paid tribute to a fallen Airman from the 748th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at a memorial service in the base chapel.Senior Airman Juan Gutierrez Jr., 748th AMXS assistant dedicated crew chief, died in a car crash Dec. 29, 2016.During the service, many of his wingmen came forward to share their memories of Gutierrez.“When you ask other crew chiefs about Juan, the first thing they’re going to do is smile,” said Lt. Col. Bradley Altman, 748th AMXS commander. “Then they’ll laugh and start telling you stories … the constant theme in all the stories is Juan was always happy, always smiling.”Gutierrez’s family received his last decoration for meritorious service as an assistant dedicated crew chief, and the service ended with a rendition of “Taps.”
