UPDATE: Lakenheath Airman dies after vehicle accident Published Dec. 27, 2018 By Staff Reports 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Following next-of-kin notifications, the Airman involved in the fatal motorcycle collision near the Fiveways Roundabout in Suffolk on Dec. 25, has been identified as Airman 1st Class Michael Mahony. “The Liberty Wing is deeply saddened by the loss of Michael,” said Col. John Kent, 48th Fighter Wing vice commander. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.” Mahony, aged 22, was assigned to the 48th Maintenance Group, 48th Component Maintenance Squadron here. “The Green Dragons are heartbroken by the sudden and tragic loss of Airman Michael Mahony,” said Lt. Col. Darrell Chase, 48th CMS commander. “Michael made an immediate and long lasting impact on the propulsion flight and all those he worked with. His greatest impact is the love, care and friendship he offered to all those he came into contact with. He will be missed.” A memorial service will be held for Mahony at 10:00 a.m., Dec. 28 at the RAF Lakenheath Chapel. All members of the 48th FW are invited to attend. Questions regarding the collision investigation should be directed to the Suffolk Constabulary.
