POW/MIA Week to be held Published Sept. 2, 2011 By Staff Reports 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England - -- RAFs Lakenheath and Mildenhall will be holding a joint Prisoner of War and Missing in Action Remembrance Week from Sept. 12 through 16, 2011. There will be a number of demonstrations and events during the POW/MIA week culminating in a retreat ceremony Sept. 16, the National POW/MIA Recognition Day. Below is a list of scheduled events for the remainder of the week. Sept. 12 - 8 a.m. POW/MIA Remembrance Breakfast at RAF Lakenheath Eagles Landing Ballroom. The Guest Speaker will be Les Allen, a former POW. - 3:30 p.m. 5K run on RAF Mildenhall South Perimeter Road. There will be a spirit award given out to the unit that displays the most spirit/camaraderie. Sept. 13 - 11 a.m. Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally staring at the RAF Mildenhall Base Exchange. Following the rally there will be a barbeque at the RAF Lakenheath Liberty Park. Sept. 14 - 8 a.m. 5K run starting from RAF Lakenheath Fitness Center. - 11 a.m. POW/MIA Luncheon at the RAF Mildenhall Galaxy Club Suffolk Room. The guest speaker will be Arthur Edgley, a member of the RAF Mildenhall's 5th Squadron and a World War II POW. Sept. 15 - 3 p.m. POW/MIA 24-hour vigil and name reading at RAF Lakenheath flagpoles. - 4:30 p.m. POW/MIA 24-hour vigil and name reading at the RAF Mildenhall Remembrance Park. Sept. 16 - 3:45 p.m. Retreat ceremony at RAF Lakenheath flagpoles. - 4:30 p.m. Retreat ceremony at the RAF Mildenhall base flag poles.
