Two birds, one stone: Airmen stay fit, raise money for combat dining Published March 31, 2011 By Senior Airman Tiffany M. Deuel 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Airmen gathered at RAF Lakenheath Fitness Center on March 25 to compete in the Liberty 56 Fitness Challenge to raise money for the 48th Fighter Wing's Third Annual Combat Dining-In. Combat dining-ins are military traditions for all services. "I did the challenge because the [combat] dining-in is a military tradition not just here, but at all bases, and I am looking forward to attending this year," said Senior Airman Owen Seivright, 48th Fighter Wing Military Justice paralegal. Airmen who participated were given pledge sheets for sponsorship. Sponsors could pledge an exact amount or an amount for each sit-up, push-up or pull-up the Airman completed. "Participants can either do one of the events up to all three. The people that sign up on the pledge sheets can pledge to pay any amount per each sit-up, push-up and pull-up the participant completes,"said Staff Sgt. Jerrie Fincher, NCO in charge of patient administration/out-patient records. Staff Sgt. Keaston Simmons, 48th Contracting Squadron contract specialist, did the most push-ups and sit-ups and raised over $200. The combat dining-in will be held on August 19.
