Most pets importable stateside
People moving stateside this summer may take most types of pets with them if they plan ahead. However, endangered species laws prevent people from taking some turtles, birds and reptiles to the United States. For more information on shipping pets and endangered species legislation, visit www.hqusareur.army.mil/opm/pets.htm.

Wine devotees can get collections stateside
Many Americans start a wine collection while stationed in Europe. With some advance planning, wine connoisseurs can still enjoy their favorite European vintages when they move to their new stateside homes. For more information on shipping wine and alcohol to the U.S. call a military customs office or consult the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms web site at www.atf.gov/.

Keep banned foodstuffs out of U.S.
Personnel shipping household goods to the USA this summer should be careful when packing the contents of their kitchen, agriculture officials advise. The U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issues fines of $300 to $1,000 to first-time offenders who ignore the strict rules that apply to sending food products stateside. To find out more about importing food, plant and animal products into the United States, visit the CBP website at www.customs.gov/xp/cgov/travel/clearing/agri_prod_inus.xml.

Know before you go this summer
People moving to the States this summer should start preparing now by finding new homes for the things that are banned from import. It is also a good idea to apply early for import permits on restricted items since the process can take months. For more information, visit the military customs web site at www.hqusareur.army.mil/opm/uscustoms.htm.

British Post Office
At the British Post Office, Airmen can pay everything from gas and water bills to telephone and mail orders. The post office also has the ability to cash and deposit checks to select banks, as well as issue and redeem money orders and exchange currencies. In addition to handling money for Airmen, the British Post Office also sells a variety of insurance, from travel to car and home insurance. Airmen can also get a road tax license issued, as well as a selection of Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency application forms. For more information, visit the British Post Office.
