New state-of-the art Female Incontinence and Prolapse Clinic to open in September Published Aug. 13, 2008 By Maj. Sherry Smith 48th Medical Group ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Through the concerted efforts of Maj. Steven Baughman, chief of urologic surgery and Capt. Edgar Le Claire, obstetrics and gynecology staff physician, a first of its kind United States Air Force clinic will open its doors in September. The new Female Incontinence and Prolapse Clinic "will set the goal of broadening our already robust incontinence care with a novel multi-disciplinary approach," announced Dr. Baughman. With changes in the USAF physical fitness testing and training program, more active duty women are having problems with post obstetric incontinence. Doctors Baughman and Le Claire plan to reorganize the urologic and gynecologic services to increase efficiency of patient referral and treatment. The high-throughput, co-located clinic will have the capability to provide same-day diagnostic services, medical management and surgical evaluation and scheduling. Co-integration will also increase cross-service education and currency for all medics embedded in the clinic. Furthermore, since there will be no additional outpatient costs, the consolidation of specialty care and supplies will likely result in an actual overall cost savings. As Col. Kenneth P. McDonnell, 48th Medical Group commander pointed out, "This initiative will benefit our patients and referring providers, making it easy for them to obtain comprehensive care quickly for a difficult clinical problem." He also emphasized, "I am proud to be the commander of this fantastic group of professionals who continually amaze me with their innovations to provide world-class service and quality of care for our patients."
