Lakenheath community bulletins, February 29 - March 6 Published Feb. 29, 2008 ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- British Post Office At the British Post Office, Airmen can pay everything from gas and water bills to telephone and mail orders. The post office also has the ability to cash and deposit checks to select banks, as well as issue, redeem money orders and exchange currencies. In addition to handling money for Airmen, the British Post Office also sells a variety of insurance, from travel, to car and home insurance. Airmen can also get a road tax license issued, as well as a selection of Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency application forms. For more information, visit the British Post Office. Munitions storage area limited service The 48th Fighter Wing munitions storage area will be available for limited support only from March 3 to 31 to conduct their semi-annual inventory. Emergency issue requests must be justified and approved in writing by the requesting unit's group commander or equivalent. Normal operations will resume April 1. For more information, call 226-1965. Trespass notice The firing range that supports RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall is located at RAF Feltwell. The range complex is in the southwest corner of the base and is surrounded by a perimeter fence clearly marked by danger signs. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. When firing is in progress, the range flags or red flashing beacon will be visible from all range entrance points. Unauthorized entry into the range is not only illegal, but also hazardous due to the airborne lead particles in the backstop. For more information, contact the range at 226-7026. Passport price raise The U.S. Department of State has increased their prices for tourist passports. Taxes The RAF Lakenheath Tax Center will open to the entire base populous Feb. 4 by appointment only. Airman and Family Readiness Center March courses Deployed family member social A deployed family member social is March 20 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Airman and Family Readiness Center. Financial foundations Financial foundations training is March 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 8 to 9 a.m. The money management class includes goal setting, budgeting, credit and debt management and basic investing. Newcomer's bus tour A newcomer's bus tour is March 7, 21 and 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The tour includes visiting the historical town of Bury St. Edmunds, the cathedral, eating in a pub, shopping and free time to explore. The March 14 tour will be to Duxford Imperial War Museum. Pre-separation briefing A pre-separation briefing is March 25 from 1 to 3 p.m. and March 11 from 9 to 11 a.m. The class fulfills the mandatory requirement for all personnel retiring or separating from the military. Four-day transition assistance program workshop A 4-day TAP workshop is 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 18-21. Participants will learn how to write effective resumes and cover letters, interviewing techniques and successful job search methods. Pet scoop A pet scoop class is March 19 from 3 to 5 p.m. The class provides pet specialists to answer questions regarding transportation requirements for pets and to assist military families in properly planning for the shipment of pets. Sponsorship training Sponsorship training is March 10 from 9 to 11 a.m. All first time active duty sponsors and those who have not had training in over a year are required to attend sponsorship training. The training reviews the basic requirements of sponsorship and provides useful resources to better assist the newcomer. Employment Connections An employment connections class is March 17 from 9 a.m. to noon. This class will teach about the local labor market and find out what jobs are available on and off base. Personnel specialists will be available to answer questions concerning their hiring procedures. Communication Training Communication training is March 22 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Spouse Reintegration Briefing A spouse reintegration training course is March 31 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. This class will discuss potential issues and tips for reintegrating with a returning spouse.
