Residents of ‘Anglo Housing’ affected by construction, leasing review Published Aug. 24, 2007 By Capt Tisha Wright 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE, England -- Military members living in Balmcrest Estates, commonly known as Anglo Housing, will experience the effects of construction as early as Jan. of next year. The construction of the new Royal Air Force Lakenheath Gate 2, located on Lord's Walk at Norwich Road will be the first significant change to affect Anglo Housing residents. Currently, these residents are located inside the base's perimeter fence. However, the new perimeter gate will run along Radcliffe Road and Anglo Housing residents will be located off-base. "The construction was initiated to restore the entry control gate and base boundary on MoD land," said Lt Col Brian Murphy, 48th Civil Engineer Squadron commander. "Locating the gatehouse on leased land was a temporary measure, driven by security concerns following 9-11. It was necessary to lease the land until MoD could secure rights to Lord's Walk on which the Air Force would construct secure entry control." Traditional access roads into the Anglo housing estate will be re-established making the area easier to navigate for the residents. Balmcrest Estate is government-leased housing, according to Ian Lancaster, Chief of Facilities for the 48 CES East Anglia Housing Office. "Currently, the lease governing the housing estate is under a regularly scheduled review," he said. "It's our desire to continue leasing the property under reasonable contract terms," said Lt Col Murphy. "It's a housing area that many of our military members enjoy due to its proximity to schools and the amenities of RAF Lakenheath." Residents of Anglo Housing can expect to receive a letter from the Housing office further detailing the current situation. Residents will also have the opportunity to attend a town hall meeting, slated for Oct. to address any concerns residents have about the housing estate.
