Liberty at America 400 in local town Published May 16, 2007 By Brig. Gen. Robert P. Steel 48th Fighter WIng commander ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- COMMENT: Sir, my family has just spent the day in Bury St. Edmunds May 6 enjoying the festivities which celebrate the joining of our countries four hundred years ago. We were particularly impressed with the friendliness of your personnel and their willingness to talk to us - probably asking the same questions as the last fifty people did--in particular, the men in charge of the two Humvees and the fire engine. Small gestures like this do more than politicians to strengthen ties across "the pond." I would be pleased if you could share these feelings with all the individuals involved. RESPONSE: Thank you for your kind words. RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall were both honored to support and participate in the America 400 event in Bury St. Edmunds - what an amazing experience to commemorate the start of British-American relations 400 years ago. As American Airmen living in East Anglia, we appreciate the personal friendships and lasting relationships we forge between our two nations.
