The 48th Fighter Wing will celebrate its first Wing Heritage Day in Hangar 7, Aug. 28.

Wing Heritage Day will observe the many cultures represented throughout the Air Force, promoting history, traditions and diversity.

"Instead of having a group of just one heritage, we have the ability to openly interact with people of different faiths, colors, and ethnic groups," said Maj. Barbara Acevedo, WHD committee chairman. "We're putting a festive theme to it, so it's applicable to all Airmen and their families."

There will be more than 10 stands set up displaying cultural heritages that are both interactive and educational, as well as an ethnic food tasting and a cultural talent portion to end the event.

"Having the event under one roof helps break the superficial boundaries and gets people to connect through education and entertainment," Acevedo said.

Musicians from the tri-base area will be performing, as well as talent from throughout the UK, including Bollywood and Native American entertainers. The event will be very family-oriented with bouncy castles and face painting available for children.

Wing Heritage Day is open to all tri-base Airmen and their families.

"The one thing we have in common is that we serve," Acevedo said. "I don't care what I see superficially. What I care about is, 'are you going to get in this boat and row with me?"
