Lakenheath kicks off Sexual Assault, Child Abuse Awareness Month Published March 31, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Dawn M. Weber 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Sexual assault and child abuse crimes are not compatible with military service. Each April, the U.S. Air Force, the Department of Defense and other organizations across the nation observe Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness Month. This annual observance highlights the efforts that all military services are taking to combat these crimes and promote prevention through special activities and public education. "As individuals of our Air Force community, we all play a vital role in preventing assaults from happening to both children and adults," said Carolina Yepez, 48th Fighter Wing Sexual Assault Response Coordinator. "We want to stand for change, and we want to stop the violence!" This year's theme for SAAM is, "Eliminate Sexual Assault: Know Your Part. Do Your Part." Throughout the month of April, the SAPR office will host numerous events to raise awareness of sexual assault and child abuse prevention beginning April 1st at the RAF Lakenheath Commissary.
