The recent announcement of the 2015 Commander in Chief's Installation Excellence Award revealed that RAF Lakenheath earned second place out of 153 U.S. Air Force installations.

As a finalist, Lakenheath earned $400,000 in quality-of-life money for making it to the final level of competition, and base improvements are already in the works.

The most notable and highly-anticipated of the upcoming projects includes increasing the availability of Wi-Fi on base. Public Wi-Fi areas will now be provided in the commissary, Base Exchange, fitness center, hospital waiting areas, hospital annex building, military personnel flight building's administrative area and medical annex building.

The installation and connection of each area is projected to be completed by Friday, April 17.

Additional projects on the horizon are a covered shelter next to the running track, new TVs in the fitness center with functioning audio capability, and new drinking fountains in the main and flightline gyms.

According to wing leadership, they're considering other allocations of the remaining award money, to include a dog park and dorm gazebo.
