Senior NCO awarded first logistics Gen. Lew Allen Jr. Trophy Published Nov. 5, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Trevor T. McBride 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Senior Master Sgt. Daniel Guzman of the 48th Logistics Readiness Squadron was recently awarded the Logistics Readiness 2013 Gen. Lew Allen Jr. Trophy. The trophy is awarded annually to a base-level maintenance officer and senior NCO, however, 2013 was the first year the trophy included the logistics readiness career fields. "I was shocked," said Guzman, 48th LRS materiel management flight chief. "When I found out I had won this award at the Air Force level, it was pretty humbling." Even though Guzman was surprised to have been recognized, other personnel in his unit were not. "He definitely earned it through the work he has done," said 1st Lt. Reanna Magner, 48th LRS materiel management flight commander. "He's part of everything and somehow manages it all at the same time. He sets the example above and beyond in many aspects." As the flight chief, Guzman used his leadership and mentorship skills to lead more than 160 Airmen. During the award period, he managed a $562 million supply account in addition to leading his flight to the RAF Lakenheath Air Force Association Citation of Honor nomination. He also mentored 12 squadron, four group and five individual award winners. According to Guzman's award citation, he has reflected credit upon himself, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and the U.S. Air Force, but he claims he didn't do it on his own. "The Airmen I am entrusted to lead, drive me to set a great example," Guzman added. Guzman has words of advice for his fellow Airmen. "Strive to do your job to the best of your abilities every day and stay humble," Guzman said. "Continue to work like it's your last day."
