Taking the H.I.I.T. Published Aug. 20, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Trevor T. McBride 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- The RAF Lakenheath Health and Wellness Center is offereing a free workout program to improve personal fitness and is available to all personnel. The High Intensity Interval Training program encompasses a fast-paced, total-body workout during a 30-minute period. According to Geoffrey Miller, 48th Aerospace Medicine Squadron exercise physiologist, the program is especially beneficial to those with only limited time available throughout the day. Held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:15 to 6:45 a.m., 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. and 10:05 to 10:35 a.m., the class is designed to push an individual past their limits to improve muscular endurance. "When we run these programs, it's the member versus themselves," said Miller. "We're not trying to get somebody to beat somebody else in the class." "It's more of self inspiration with a basic guidance," he added. Currently, there is a range of 10 to 25 participants in each class. "It was harder than I was expecting," said Staff Sgt. Joshua Ogles, 48th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron avionics technician. "It's better to have someone pushing you, opposed to going to the gym and having to do your own thing." The H.I.I.T. program is designed to help people with specific goals. It also opens the door for people to consider their nutrition and how it can affect their fitness. "The biggest thing is just to get out there and give it a try," said Miller. "And the best part, it's free."
