2016 marked the first year Airmen from Royal Air Force Lakenheath had the opportunity to participate in the annual Royal Norfolk Show, June 30.

Thirty Liberty Airmen donned their freshly pressed service dress to march in the event, which showcased different military branches in the area to over 2,500 attending locals.

“It’s an honor to be a part of a showcase like this,” said Master Sgt. Trevor Gilliand, 48th Operations Support group air crew flight equipment superintendent. “It feels good to give something back to the community and work with our joint-force partners.”

The Liberty Airmen, along with six other participating services, were showered with words of encouragement and gratitude as they all marched through the Norfolk community.

“There was a lot of planning that went into getting all these units in place, but the event came together amazingly,” said Sgt. Nina Lyons, RAF Marham ceremonial organizer. “It’s always great to have our service members be able to get out and show their faces because it reassures the community that, though we may make a lot of noise, we are all here to help.”

With the overwhelming success of the event and positive reception from the Norfolk community, Liberty Airmen look forward to taking part in next year’s Royal Norfolk Show.
