RAF, USAF celebrate Friends & Family day together Published July 22, 2016 By Staff Sgt. Emerson Nuñez 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs ROYAL AIR FORCE MARHAM, England -- Four hundred Airmen from Royal Air Forces Lakenheath and Mildenhall were invited to the RAF Marham Friends & Family Day to celebrate the installation’s 100th anniversary of service at RAF Marham, England July 21. The event is an annual private celebration for base personnel, their families and invited guests. "We are recognizing and rewarding the 3,000 people that work on the base," said Royal Air Force Squadron Leader Ben Sharp, project officer for Friends & Family Day 2016. "They put a lot of hard work and dedication into delivering the operational output of the Royal Air Force." Sharp also mentioned that the day is all about saying "thank you very much" to the base personnel's families, friends in the local community, who support the installation, and the American allies whose partnership will continue to grow with the anticipated arrival of the F-35s at both RAFs Marham and Lakenheath. RAFs Lakenheath and Mildenhall supported the event with static displays, such as the HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter, CV-22 Osprey and a KC-135R Stratotanker. "I had a lot of fun seeing the airplanes and playing on the bouncy castle,”said Lincoln Such, son of Master Sgt. Matthew Such, 48th Fighter Wing Comptroller Squadron financial management flight chief. “I want to come here every year!” The event showcased a three-and-a-half hour flight display, static aircraft displays, food booths, shopping, rides and evening concert to ensure guests of all ages enjoyed the day.
