Staff Sgt. Alexis King, 48th Fighter Wing command post emergency actions controller, lays in a hospital bed, in Washington D.C., while her blood travels through a blood cell separator machine collecting stem cells April 23. The process is called apheresis, where a needle is placed into each of my arms. Blood is removed from a vein in one arm and passed through tubing into the machine and then back into her other vein. This was the 5th day in the process of donating bone marrow.(Courtesy photo)
