A Field Trip Through Time
When a housing unit at RAF Lakenheath, England, was torn down, construction workers found signs of an ancient ?ring ditch burial mound,? the outline of the mound can be seen through the darker areas in the picture. When construction workers saw this, they contacted the 48th Civil Engineering Environmental flight, who then coordinated the archaeological dig with the Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service. Five human skeletons dating back to periods between the Bronze and Iron age were found in the ditch surrounding the mound. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Perry Aston)
