8/11/2009 - ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- The Imperial War Museum Duxford will host the third annual American Air Day, Aug. 21. The purpose of the event is to highlight the airpower abilities of the U.S. Air Force and its historic link to Duxford Air Field, which dates back to 1918. U.S. Air Force aircraft assigned to bases in Europe will perform air and ground shows. Lakenheath-based F-15 Eagles will conduct four-ship fly-bys and a simulated airfield attack, jumpers will parachute from the special operations MC-130 H/P, and rescue crews will simulate a combat search and rescue mission featuring the HH-60 helicopter. There will also be static displays and crewmembers on standby to talk about their weapons systems and explain how their aircraft and equipment work, and what their mission is. Additionally, Security Forces will put on a military working dog demonstration, and U.S. Air Force fire fighters will display and give demonstrations of their fire-fighting trucks and equipment. There will also be a weather display to demonstrate the use of tactical weather observing equipment. For more information or to purchase tickets, call the RAF Lakenheath Information, Tickets and Travel office at 226-2979.
