11/16/2010 - ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- Taxiway Encroachment
When using the industrial gate (adjacent to the Strike Eagle Complex), before crossing the runway make sure to stop at the stop sign. Give way to any flightline vehicles passing and any aircraft passing through. Do not cut off an aircraft, but wait until the aircraft has passed by 300 feet. This is the distance to the Aircraft Taxiway Gates. Vehicles will give the right-of-way to all aircraft, emergency response vehicles and vehicles in the taxiway driving lanes.

U.K. Visa Fee Increase
Effective November 22 there will be a increase in the fee for a U.K. visa. The fee will be £800 for the main applicant and £200 for each dependant included on an application form. 
The old forms can be used for up to 21 days by adhering to the new fee. For more information go to http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/aboutus/fees/.

Thanksgiving Eve Service at Ely Cathedral
Pre-service organ recital begins at 7:00 p.m. Dress warmly as the cathedral can be cold. To enhance force protection, military members should wear civilian clothes, not service dress uniforms. A pie and cookie fellowship will immediately follow the service. Free bus transportation departs both chapels at 6 p.m. First come, first served! Thanksgiving Day Service at St. Paul's Cathedral
The Vice Consul at the U.S. Embassy in London reminds all U.S. servicemembers that St. Paul's Cathedral will host a Thanksgiving Day Service at 11 a.m. November 25. The link to the event on the embassy website is: http://london.usembassy.gov/culture/thanksgiving_service.html.

Lakenheath High School College Night
Lakenheath High School is looking for base personnel (military,civilian, and spouses) to represent their alma mater November 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. This event is a great opportunity for high school students to become informed of a wide range of universities, financial aid and scholarship options. For more information, contact Jamie Henshaw at 226-3015.

LOAC Training
Have you completed your Law of Armed Conflict Training on ADLS? It is that time of year that the 48 FW Legal Office has to report training compliance through USAFE to USAF. Don't be caught without your training! Complete your training before November 30 by logging onto ADLS through the Air Force Portal or at https://golearn.csd.disa.mil, or by contacting your unit training manager.

NAF Furniture Sale
The Liberty Lodge is holding a NAF sale December 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in lodging buildings 983 and 985. Mouthguard Clinic
Lakenheath Dental Clinic will be holding a mouthguard clinic December 2 for custom mouthguard fittings. To schedule your appointment for a mouthguard appliance, contact Lakenheath Dental Clinic at 226-8812 (this number is applicable for mouthguard appointments only).

Tree Lighting
Come to the Liberty Pine across from the Medical Center December 3 at 5 p.m. to watch as the lighting of the holiday tree. There will be a special visit from Santa, free hot chocolate and candy canes. Join the Youth center in singing some of your favorite Christmas carols. Call 226-4884 for more information.

Operation Cookie Drive
Every year the Lakenheath community provides approximately 12,000 cookies to single Airmen living in dormitories and those deployed downrange. Volunteers are needed to bake four dozen cookies or brownies and bring them to the Eagles Landing December 8 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Volunteers will also be needed to bag the cookies for distribution December 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information contact Ashley Peebles at president@lakenheathocsc.org.

Harlem Globetrotters
The Harlem Globetrotters will be performing at the RAF Lakenheath Fitness & Sports Center December 12. The free show is from 3 to 5 p.m. For more information call 226-1719.

The Adopt-A-School Program is designed to encourage units and squadrons to adopt-a-school and volunteer their time in building a positive role model relationship with the Department of Defense Dependents Schools community. Squadrons and units who adopt a specific school will be able to volunteer for various programs, events or activities within the school. For more information, contact the School Liaison Office at 226-5077/5078.

This program is designed for a smal group of people who wish to work with a classroom or in a specific venue of a school, such as volunteering for sports activities or school stores) Individuals can contact the School Liaison Office and indicate what teacher or activity the group would like to volunteer. The SLO will in turn make all the necessary arrangements to set up the opportunity between the desired classroom or activity. Finally, the SLO will re-engage with the small group to pass along contact information. This program allows small groups to become more involved with the children and allows the group to excel in a particular field rather than working on a large scale with the school. Mentor Program at Lakenheath Elementary School
Lakenheath Elementary School is seeking adult volunteers to work one hour a week with third grade students in the Mentor Program. The program meets during lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each Monday. Mentors work one-on-one with students to foster achievement at school by building a positive, caring relationship. Activities include eating lunch together, doing 10 to 15 minutes of academic review, and then enjoying some social time, such as playing board games. Eagle Eyes Awareness
USAF Eagle Eyes is a global "neighborhood watch" program for the deterrence of terrorism by recognizing and reporting pre-attack activities. Report suspicious activities to 226-3937 (EYES). If you are off base, first call 999 and then 01638-523937. Suspicious activities may include:
Elicitation of information
Tests of security
Acquiring supplies
Suspicious persons out of place
Dry runs
Deploying assets
Suspicious phone calls
Suspicious packages

Free/Reduced School Lunch Program
A child must enroll in the program each school year (August 2010 --July 2011). Fill out the USAFE Form 400 in its entirety to include spouse information (if applicable), PSC, Box, and DEROS information. Under total members of household section, please include all members of household to include college students under the age of 25, adopted children, a child of joint custody, and a child living with one parent, and relatives or friends. Under the family's total gross monthly income, please include income from social security, child support, unemployment compensation, hazardous duty pay, hostile fire pay, and family separation pay. Lastly, if the sponsor is deploying, you may deduct the amount of income that the deployed member needs for living expenses. For more information contact the School Liasion Office at 226-5077/5078.

Crosswalk Volunteers Needed
Everyone in the community, to include military, U.S. /MOD civilian personnel, parents and contractors, needs to ensure that children are kept safe while walking to and from school. Five volunteers are needed twice a day to ensure coverage throughout the high-traffic areas. The crosswalks are located near the Lords-Walk housing area, the Housing Office, the roundabout by Liberty Intermediate School and the Lakenheath Elementary School roundabout. Depending on location, the crosswalks are manned from approximately 7:30 to 8:10 a.m. and 2:30 to 3:10 p.m. To volunteer, contact the School Liaison Office at 226-5077/5078.

Spouse Tuition Assistance Program
Applications are now being accepted for the Spouse Tuition Assistance Program (STAP). Visit the Education Office in Building 948 to pick up an application. For more information, call 226-3851.

Trespass Notice
The 48th Security Forces Squadron Combat Arms firing range complex that supports RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall is located at Building 230, RAF Feltwell. The range complex is in the southwest corner of the base and is surrounded by a perimeter fence clearly marked by danger signs. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday. When firing is in progress, red range flags or red flashing beacons will be visible from all range complex entrance points. Unauthorized entry to the range complex is illegal and hazardous due to gunfire and airborne lead particles within the complex. For more information or for a valid need for entry to the complex, contact the 48th Security Forces Squadron Combat Arms Office at 226-7286/7287.

Information regarding importing vehicles to the UK
The DVLA no longer requires military members to obtain an original hard copy of their insurance certificates for imported registration purposes. Personnel can now print their insurance certificates by accessing their policy online; however, faxed, photocopied or scanned copies are still not accepted.
