7/2/2012 - ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England -- It's election year!
Being stationed overseas means you must cast your vote by absentee ballot. In some ways this is easier, but it requires some planning.
Let's work backwards.
Elections take place on November 6, so election officials need to receive your ballot by the end of October. You should plan on submitting by October 1 to meet this goal.
But wait! How do you obtain an absentee ballot?
First you have to update your address information with your state of residence and request your ballot. You can do this by visiting www.FVAP.gov and following the simple instructions you'll find there.
You'll be directed to complete a federal post card application, print it, sign it and send it (via mail, but postage is paid). The deadline for submitting your FPCA is July 15. This ensures sufficient time remains for election officials in your district to verify the information and send you an absentee ballot, either by e-mail, mail or fax, according to your preference.
It's simple really, so don't miss out on your opportunity to exercise the right you defend.
Your RAF Lakenheath Voting Assistance Office stands ready to assist you. Contact us at vote@lakenheath.af.mil or you can visit our office immediately adjacent to the MPF customer service sign in computers in building 977. We are open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
